Investing
Investing involves risk, including loss of the money you invest. Examples shown in the app and on this site are illustrations, not recommendations.
Tokenized stocks
The stock positions you hold on Folio are tokenized stocks: assets that track the price of the underlying share. They are issued by xStocks. Prices come from on-chain markets — Backpack lists these assets and prices them on its exchange, and Jupiter finds the best price across the markets available at the time of your trade.
Custody
Your holdings are self-custodied through Privy, the provider that gives you secure login and access to your assets. Folio never holds your assets and never receives your private access credentials.
Margin
Borrowing amplifies losses as well as gains, and you can lose more than you deposit. [FOUNDER: margin terms and eligibility]
A margin or short position borrows against the collateral you supply, and interest accrues on that debt as Carry. Health is how much room your collateral has above the debt it secures. Folio does not liquidate positions — the lending provider, Kamino, liquidates under its published rules when Health falls too low. You can lose everything you put up as collateral.
Crypto
Crypto assets are highly volatile. Protections differ by account type. [FOUNDER: crypto terms and protections by account type]
Cash
The APY shown on cash balances is variable, can change at any time, and is shown with its as-of date. [FOUNDER: eligibility, source of yield and protections]
